Updating Climate Essay

Yesterday, NOAA (US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) published its global climate data for October and I dutifully updated my ongoing Climate Catastrophe essay which consisted of adding a line to two temperature graphs and updating corresponding sections accordingly.

I do this every month about this time, and it's getting quite predictable. Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere up; Temperatures among the highest on record; and plenty of extreme weather events around the world.

I read that great things are being done to combat global warming; but the physical data doesn't seem to bear this out.

Losing Australia

We are on the cusp of losing an entire continent, as Australia is again faced with multiple out-of-control fires and other extreme weather events such as baseball size hail stones. Smoke from the fires has made breathing in Sydney downright unhealthy.

Meanwhile, Australia probably ranks second only to the United States in Climate Change Denial.

And the US Military?

Michael Klare writes that 20 years in the future the US Military (and other militaries as well) will be in no position to fight wars because of damage at home from multiple simultaneous extreme weather events such as we are already witnessing. While I would welcome the inability of the world's militaries to fight wars, multiple simultaneous extreme weather events seems a rather high price to pay for something that could be accomplished cheaply and simply.

Not mentioned in Klare's article is that The Pentagon has an outsized responsibility for global warming being the greatest single emitter of greenhouse gases. Furthermore, current upgrades to the Pentagon's arsenal lock it into continued future reliance on fossil fuels.
