1. NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2019

We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office, THIS THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, FROM NOON TO 1:00 PM (and most subsequent Thursdays until peace is established). Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the 70s. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. THURSDAY, SEPT. 26: CITIZENS CLIMATE LOBBY MEETING

Citizens Climate Lobby will meet at 5:30 pm on September 26 in the meeting room in the children's section of the Rolla Public Library. The film, “Ice on Fire” will be shown.

3. THE MISFIT MATHEMATICIAN (Tom's column, http://tomsager.org)

Fairytales of Eternal Growth
“People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are at the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth, How dare you!” —Greta Thunberg (address to the United Nations)

“...and a little child shall lead them.” —Isaiah 11:6

Four million turned out Friday to Strike for the Climate — probably the largest demonstration the world has seen since February 15, 2003, when 8 to 30 million demonstrated against the invasion of Iraq. As we all know, the Tellers of Fairytales went ahead and invaded Iraq anyway — and we're all still suffering from the blowback from that invasion 16 years later, just as the Earth will be suffering from the blowback from the arrogance and intransigence of the Tellers of Fairytales for centuries if not millennia.

But, maybe this time it will be different. More demonstrations are planned and the Tellers of Fairytales are scared — Yes, scared of The People! Now they tell us they are going to impeach Donald Trump and then everything will be fine — only it won't, not until every Teller of Fairytales is impeached and replaced by those who care about peace and the only planet we have to live on.

Here in Rolla, we stood up! Over 60 of us struck for the climate. (See photos here) But once is not enough. If we want to save our planet and our future, we must do this again and again and again in ever-increasing numbers.
