1. NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE: THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2020

We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office, THIS THURSDAY, JUNE 11, FROM NOON TO 1:00 PM (and most subsequent Thursdays until Peace is established). Please join us again this Thursday in saying NO WAR AGAINST IRAN or any other country. The temperature is predicted to be in the 70s. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. THE MISFIT MATHEMATICIAN (Tom's column, http://tomsager.org)

Hundreds March for Justice in Rolla

Sunday, Rolla was treated to a demonstrations of more hundreds of people then this mathematician can count up to, all saying, “Justice!” — justice for George Floyd, who was murdered by four policemen in Minneapolis two weeks ago, and for the many others who have died in similar incidents.

I have been in the Rolla Area for 38 years and I have never seen anything like this. Many thanks to the organizers: Destiny, Deanne and others I am not aware of. Many thanks to the hundreds who came to say, “Justice.” Many thanks to Chief Sean Fagan and the entire Rolla Police Department for keeping the event peaceful; and my particular thanks to the officer who stopped and asked me if I needed help, as I hobbled along far behind the marchers.

To my knowledge: No one was hurt; no one was gassed; no one was shot; no one was arrested; and no property was damaged. (Someone, please inform me if this is not correct.)

Yes, this is the way it should be done. We are the Show-Me City in the Show-Me State!

If you have a minute, listen to this video of Judy Collins singing the Phil Ochs song, In the Heat of the Summer, about a similar demonstration that happened in Harlem over 50 years ago. Here's an important line:
“Oh where, oh where, are the white silver tongues,
Who forgot to listen to the warning.”

Yes, it is time to start listening. And here is some advice that the Prophet Muhammad gave to an office seeker 1,600 years ago:
“Fear the cry of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and God.”
Some great photos of the demonstration by Andrew Sheeley and a short article here in the Phelps County Focus.
