One Honest Vote in the House
“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”
—Mark Twain

“Between two evils, choose neither; between two goods, choose both.”
—Tryon Edwards

Faced with a choice between two evils when impeachment came up for a vote before the House of Representatives, Tulsi Gabbard was the only one to choose neither. She voted, “present” and pissed off everybody. Yes, pissed them all off. Good for her! I like that!

Certainly Donald Trump deserves to be impeached; but not by that crowd of deranged dolts who had just voted a $738 billion blank check to the Pentagon to make War, even Nuclear War, in all corners of the globe and even in space; not by that crowd of deranged dolts who voted money for a border wall while children are torn from their parents at the border; and not by that crowd of deranged dolts who would pass NAFTA II with little attention to Climate Change and other environmental concerns.

We've been hearing a lot of sacrilege coming from Donald Trump and his crowd of Bible-bangers. Comparing impeachment to the Crucifixion is nothing short of blasphemy. Implying that the deceased husband of a widow who voted for impeachment is looking up from Hell is absolutely disgusting. It's too bad that all these political Bible-bangers missed the Biblical verses that really pertain to this impeachment. Most pertinent, I think, are these verses from John 8:
“And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto [Jesus] a woman taken in adultery; ... and [said:] ... Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? ...

“[Jesus] said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. ... And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last:” —John 8:3-9 (KJV)

We can find a close runner-up in Matthew 7:
“And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? ... Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.” —Matthew 7:3-5 (KJV)
As Chris Hedges points out, the chances of the Republican Senate convicting Donald Trump are virtually zero. Impeachment is simply a distraction. Even if Trump were to be convicted in the Senate, the chances of a government with Mike Pence as President doing anything to rein in the Pentagon, reduce global warming, or end any of the excesses and atrocities of the Trump presidency would still be virtually zero. Congress could shut down these atrocities now by simply not budgeting any money for them.

Among 435 members of the House of Representatives, Tulsi Gabbard cast the only honest vote. Thank you, Tulsi.

The Conscience of Congress: Another Lone Vote

In last Thursday's debate, Bernie Sanders was asked to justify his vote in 2001 in favor of the War Against Afghanistan. Bernie responded:
“Well, only one person, my good friend, Barbara Lee, was right on that issue. She was the only person in the House to vote against the war in Afghanistan. She was right. I was wrong. So was everybody else in the House.”
Thank you, Bernie, for reminding us of Barbara Lee's immense courage in standing up to 434 representatives and a populace gripped in war fever and voting her Conscience. And yes, she was Right and the other 434 were Wrong — Wrong to the tune of hundreds of thousands dead, trillions of dollars wasted, a land in shambles, and 18 years squandered. To my knowledge, Bernie is the only politician to admit to being wrong on the War Against Afghanistan. That is why we need Bernie so badly.

We need to elect a lot more Barbara Lees, Tulsi Gabbards and Bernie Sanderses.

Bernie Sanders on War and Climate Change

I think Bernie is the only candidate for President who really understands the connection between Militarism and Climate Change and just how dire our situation has become. When asked during Thursday's debate about relocating climate refugees, Bernie replied:
“With all due respect, Tim, your question misses the mark. It is not an issue of relocating people from towns. The issue now is whether we save the planet for our children and grandchildren. ...

“The United States has got to lead the world, and maybe—just maybe—instead of spending $1.8 trillion a year, globally, on weapons of destruction, maybe an American president can lead the world. Instead of spending money to kill each other, maybe we pool our resources and fight our common enemy which is Climate Change.”

If you are still undecided about whom to vote for in the March primary, think hard about Bernie.
