1. NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE: THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 2019

We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office, THIS THURSDAY, JUNE 27 FROM NOON TO 1:00 PM (and most subsequent Thursdays until peace is established). Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be around 90. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. THE MISFIT MATHEMATICIAN (Tom's column, http://tomsager.org)

TRUMP BLINKS; AND SANCTIONS IRAN'S FOREIGN MINISTER, JAVAD ZARIF

US manned and unmanned spycrafts have been flying along the Iranian border, sometimes teasing Iranian defenses by entering Iran's airspace. Thursday, Iran took the bait and downed an unmanned spycraft that, according to Iran, had crossed the border. The US vowed to retaliate; but at the last minute called off the attack. This was certainly a good thing for all of us.

Not wishing to appear weak and wishy-washy, Donald Trump instead sanctioned Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Foreign Minister Javad Zarif. I don't get this. Trump says he wants to meet with Iran and negotiate a deal; but instead sanctions Foreign Mininster Zarif.

I think that so many have become so fed up with US unilateralism and sanctions that it will not be long before the rest of the world puts together economic infrastructure that does not revolve around the US dollar and is impervious to US unilateral sanctions. Wait and see what happens to the US economy then.

SIX PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFULS PLEDGE TO END ENDLESS WAR

Here is the End the Forever War pledge:
The United States has been in a state of continuous, global, open-ended military conflict since 2001. Over 2.5 million troops have fought in this “Forever War” in over a dozen countries – including Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Jordan, Niger, Somalia, and Thailand. I pledge to the people of the United States of America, and to our military community in particular, that I will (1) fight to reclaim Congress’s constitutional authority to conduct oversight of U.S. foreign policy and independently debate whether to authorize each new use of military force, and (2) act to bring the Forever War to a responsible and expedient conclusion.
It has been signed by six presidential candidates including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker. You can sign the pledge too as a citizen sponsor. Click here.

NOAA UNVEILS VERSION V OF ITS GLOBAL TEMPERATURE DATASET

Version V yields results similar to the previous version, however, it shows increased warming within the past few years. The anomaly for March 2016, which in both versions was the highest recorded increased from 1.23°C to 1.30°C above the 20th Century average.

Meanwhile Miami bakes in record temperatures while the Everglades burn and the Democratic National Committee does not want the candidates to debate climate catastrophe.
