Missouri presidential primary is Tuesday, March 10. Helen and I are supporting Bernie Sanders because we feel that he is our best chance to avoid the twin scourges of Forever War and Climate Change. 2. NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE: THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 2020 We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office, THIS THURSDAY, MARCH 12, FROM NOON TO 1:00 PM (and most subsequent Thursdays until Peace is established). Please join us again this Thursday in saying NO WAR AGAINST IRAN or any other country. The temperature is predicted to be in the 60s. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign. 3. THE MISFIT MATHEMATICIAN (Tom's column, http://tomsager.org) a) Coronavirus Update b) February Climate Data c) Globalization Coronavirus Update As expected, on March 5, new cases worldwide surpassed new recoveries for the first time since February 18. The number of contagious cases, which had been decreasing since February 18 are now on the rise again. New cases in China fell to 40 on March 8. Meanwhile new cases outside of China stood at 3,847. Parts of Italy have been placed under partial quarantine. Will this work in Italy the way it has in China? Will the Italians show the dedication and discipline the Chinese have shown? We'll see. There are now over 500 cases in the United States including one in Missouri. 22 have died. February Climate Data Copernicus Climate Change Programme has rated February 2020 the second warmest February on record. This follows the warmest January on record and the second warmest year (2019) on record. After a brief respite, Australia fires were finally extinguished by torrential rain and flooding which added to the continent's woes. And carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increased by 2.36 ppm over February 2019. Globalization John Feffer notes how fragile our global civilization is and how it is literally disintegrating before our eyes under the scourges of climate change, pestilence and militarism. Feffer recommends a new globalization where the world hegemons, the United States and China, work together against climate change, disease and inequality. This is an important article.
