1. NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE: THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2015

We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2015, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the 40s. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. YES, HE CAN!

The media, the wealthiest Americans, the Democratic party establishment and the corporations are all singing the same song: Bernie can't win. To make sure he won't, they are shutting him out of media coverage, manipulating poll results, and misreporting debates. This is not just the Republicans doing this; the power-mongers in the Democratic party are even more desperately trying to convince the public that there's no point in voting for Bernie, damning him with faint praise (he's well-meaning, but what he wants to accomplish isn't possible), and shoving Hillary down our throats every chance they get.

Of course they want Hillary as their candidate — they own her. Bernie Sanders is not owned by anyone. Hillary, if elected, will throw a few crumbs to the people, but there won't be much difference otherwise from a Trump presidency. We will still have perpetual war, the corporations will continue raping the planet, the country's infrastructure will continue to deteriorate, and the people will not be represented. Donald Trump will provide comic relief; that's about it.

Bernie Sanders is the only candidate that has any interest in a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. His huge upwelling of support has freaked out the power structure that controls this country. They are telling you he can't win. Don't believe them.

3. THE MISFIT MATHEMATICIAN (Tom's column, http://tomsager.org)
          a) Who IS On First
          b) Islamophobia
          c) COP21 Closes With Empty “Historic Agreement”

WHO IS ON FIRST

For all you baseball fans, a modernization of Abbott and Costello's comedy classic, brought up to date to include everything that is going on in the Middle East and more.

ISLAMOPHOBIA

The Huffington Post is keeping a list of Islamophobic Acts in the US and Canada since the Friday the 13th deadly incident in Paris last month. The list is at 71 and growing. Incidents range from arson to vandalism to threats with knives and guns.

And here's a new twist: Two Dutch film makers disguise a Bible as the Qur'an and read some of the more gory verses from the Old Testament and then ask folks to comment. Note the surprise on their faces when they find out that its the Bible and not the Qur'an.

COP21 CLOSES WITH EMPTY “HISTORIC AGREEMENT”
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking;
Everybody knows that the captain lied;
Everybody got this broken feeling,
Like their father or their dog just died.”
          —Leonard Cohen (Everybody Knows)

“Long on rhetoric, short on action” — that's an excellent description of what 195 countries agreed to after two weeks of “negotiations” in Paris. Hailed as a “major leap for mankind,” this agreement contains very little of substance. Nothing in the deal about bringing an end to the wars and militarism that are major drivers of climate change.

In my opinion, COP21 is comparable to the 1938 Munich conference in which Britain and France signed an agreement with Nazi Germany buying an empty promise of “peace for our time” in exchange for the betrayal of Czechoslovakia. In this case the stakes, the future existence of the human race, are so much higher.

Well, what would you expect after the way the climate justice leadership caved in to France's demand to cancel activities because of “security concerns?”
