1. THURSDAY NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE

Our weekly noon vigils return this week to Thursdays. We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, December 3, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the low to mid 30s under partly cloudy skies. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. CHRISTMAS PARADE

The Christmas Parade will be Saturday Dec. 5 at 10 AM. We will line up on Rolla St. between 8th and 9th at 9:45. The theme is 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, and I thought we might ask for an end to foreign wars so that all the troops can be brought home to their families for Christmas (a rather forlorn hope in view of Obama's announcement that he will send 30,000 more troops). The temperature is predicted to be in the low to mid 30s under mostly sunny skies. All participants have been asked not to have Santa or Mrs. Claus in their displays, so as not to compete with the Santa and Mrs. Claus at the end of the parade.

3. OBAMA THUMBS HIS NOSE AT THE 57 PERCENT WHO WANT AN END TO WAR

Barack Obama announced today, as expected, that he will send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan in spite of the disapproval of 57 percent of the US population and a far higher percentage of those who put him in the White House, and a far higher percentage of Afghans who he claims to be saving from themselves, (click here) . Call The White House 202-456-1111 and tell him what you think of his decision.

4. AND SO DO OUR MAJOR NEWS OUTLETS

A study by FAIR (Fainess and Accuracy In Reporting) shows that two of our country's leading newspapers, the New York Times and the Washington Post, have virtually ignored the Peace Movement which is now 57% of the population while favoring the war movement, (click here) . Our local media is no slouch at ignoring the peace movement either. We have vigiled in front of the Post Office every week in snow, ice and blistering sun for almost three years. This must be a record for Rolla, yet it has been almost two years since we have received any coverage at all from the Rolla Daily News or the local radio stations, including the so-called "public" radio station.

5. OBAMA ADMINISTRATION RECONSIDERS LANDMINE TREATY

The State Department announced last Wednesday that the US would NOT join 158 nations in signing the treaty banning landmines, a weapon which kills and kills and kills, mostly civilians, long after the battle is over, (click here) . Due to almost universal outrage, (click here) , The State Department backpedaled and announced the following day that no decision had been reached on the landmine treaty. OBAMA MIGHT RECONSIDER HIS DECISION TO ESCALATE THE AFGHAN WAR TOO, IF ENOUGH PEOPLE EXPRESS OUTRAGE!
