1. NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2017

We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2017, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the 70s. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. WE COULD HAVE ELECTED BERNIE

Throughout the 2016 campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, polls continuously predicted that Bernie Sanders would win over Donald Trump by a comfortable margin, while a race between Clinton and Trump would be a tossup. Now, the chief pollster for Donald Trump's campaign says there is “no question” that Sanders would have beaten Trump, had he won the nomination.

Unfortunately, the Democratic establishment was not about to nominate Bernie Sanders. They had their preferred candidate already chosen — one who would support the status quo and not interfere with the continued shifting of wealth from the 99% to the 1%. They criticized Sanders for being a “spoiler,” but really, it was Hillary Clinton who played that role. Because the corporate Democrats supported a candidate whose most appealing quality was “not Trump,” we got Trump.

One might think the Democrats would have learned something from the debacle of the 2016 presidential election, but one would be wrong. The powers that be in the Democratic party are all beholden to Wall Street and their corporate donors. They have no real connection to most of the American people, and have no idea what it's like to be poor, unemployed, discriminated against and oppressed. They never have to choose between buying food or necessary medical care. They, or their children, don't have to go into debt to get an education. When their elected terms are up, they don't have to worry about getting a job — their corporate owners have a place for them, just the other side of the revolving door.

With this mindset, Democrats are losing more elections all the time. Apparently, they would rather see the party die than change.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Just remember that the scariest spooks are in Washington DC.

NUCLEAR WEAPONS

A quotation is worth a thousand original words. Briana Mitchell sends out this collection of quotes from presidents, politicians, generals and military officers on nuclear weapons (second reply to Gary Kohl's article on the nuking of Nagasaki). Many of these quotations I've seen before, but never all in the same place. Read them carefully and then ask yourselves: “Who are the real terrorists?”

CO2 IN OUR ATMOSPHERE

We've passed the late September low and CO2 in the atmosphere is on the increase again as our Northern Hemisphere trees go dormant and stop converting large quantities of CO2 to oxygen. The 2017 low was around 403 ppm as compared to the 2016 low around 401 ppm. If it's any consolation the rate of increase in 2016 was slightly less than the 2015 rate which set a record. Ever wonder about those devastating hurricanes and wildfires plaguing us this Summer and Fall?

THE MOST UNPOPULAR PRESIDENT IN US HISTORY

Donald Trump's disapproval rating hit 62% Sunday, setting a new record according to Gallup's ongoing poll.

TRUMP HUMOR

Here's a cartoon on why we don't need Trump's wall.

And some choice ripostes by Michael Moore to a Donald Trump insult.
