1. NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2016

We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2016, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the 60s. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. BUEHLER PARK – PLEASE SIGN OUR ONLINE PETITION

Citizens for the Preservation of Buehler Park has posted an online petition to the City of Rolla on change.org asking the city not to build a dog-park in Buehler Park. Please consider signing it and sharing it with family and friends.

The Parks Commission will meet tomorrow (Wed. Oct. 26) at 5:30 in The Centre (12th and Holloway). Please consider attending the meeting and asking the Parks Commission NOT to build a dog-park in Buehler Park.

Your phone calls and emails are still needed. Contact information here.

3. YES ON AMENDMENT ONE

Please consider voting YES on November 8 for Amendment One to renew the State Parks, Water and Soil Conservation tax for another 10 years. More information here.

4. CLIMATE WAR ESCALATES

Apparently, the State of North Dakota has made itself responsible for ensuring that the ND Pipeline goes through. Increasing intimidation, violence, and arrests are being used against the water protectors at Standing Rock, who remain committed to nonviolence.

Standing Rock and allied tribes have claimed eminent domain on a tract of land also claimed by Dakota Access, and set up a new winter camp. They say that this land was affirmed to belong to them by treaty in 1851, and they intend to “stand and face the storm” there.

Meanwhile, yet another leak has sprung, in a 400,000-barrel-a-day pipeline in Cushing, Oklahoma. This is the second pipeline “release” associated with the Cushing storage hub in less than a month.

Just a few days earlier, a pipeline rupture in Pennsylvania spilled 55,000 gallons of gasoline into the Susquehanna River, and a similar spill in Alabama occurred a month or so ago.

As a 13-year old Standing Rock Sioux girl said, “Oil pipelines break, spill, and leak — it's not a question of if, it's a question of where and when,”

5. THE MISFIT MATHEMATICIAN (Tom's column, http://tomsager.org)

WHAT I LEARNED FROM HOURS OF DEBATES (MOST OF WHICH I DIDN'T LISTEN TO)

I learned that neither candidate has a plan to bring Peace to the World or even to the United States of America. Indeed, neither candidate seems to care about bringing Peace to the World or even to the United States of America.

I learned that neither candidate has a plan to stop or even slow runaway climate change. Indeed, neither candidate seems to care about stopping or even slowing runaway climate change.

I learned that there are many other things that these candidates want to accomplish; but I doubt they will be successful, if they don't bring Peace to the World and stop runaway climate change. Indeed, I doubt success in these other endeavors would matter very much without bringing Peace to the World and stopping runaway climate change.

But I'm a slow-learner. Maybe some of you readers learned a lot more from the debates than I did.
