1. THURSDAY NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE

Our weekly noon vigils are on Thursdays. We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, October 1, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be around 70 with a 40% chance of rain. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. RALLY FOR PEACE IN COLUMBIA, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11

Begins 1:30 in Courthouse Square, 8th and Walnut: music, speeches, peace march and more.

3. 500 THOUSAND TROOPS FOR 5 YEARS

According to Gen. McChrystal pacifying Afghanistan would require 500,000 troops for five years, (click here) . , which inspired the following rhyme (with all due respect to Lewis Carroll):

"If half a million troops with half a million guns Fired for five long years, Do you suppose," McChrystal said, "They could get Afghanistan clear?" "I doubt it," said Obama, And shed a bitter tear.

4. UN INSPECTIONS = NO IRANIAN NUCLEAR WEAPONS

Juan Cole, (click here) , states the obvious: As long as the IAEA inspects the proposed new Iranian nuclear enrichment facility, it won't be used for weapons manufacture. Iran has reiterated its "No first strike" policy. Israel and the United States, both nuclear weapons states, have threatened Iran with preemptive strike.
