1. THURSDAY NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE

Our weekly noon vigils are on Thursdays. We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, September 24, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the low to mid 70s with a 30% chance of rain. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. RALLY FOR PEACE IN COLUMBIA, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11

Begins 1:30 in Courthouse Square, 8th and Walnut: music, speeches, peace march and more.

3. MONDAY'S CANDLELIGHT VIGIL AT MS&T

This year's first peace event on the S&T campus was a great success drawing almost 50 people. Organizer, Erin Hood, plans more on campus peace events.

4. PAINT IT PINK

War and militarism are intimately connected with environmental disaster. Besides the copious quantities of pollutants that militaries strew about their battlefields, war distracts our attention from environmental disaster and lays claim to the our money, talents and energies that could be used to combat environmental disaster and degradation. Environmental disaster in turn creates instabilities that give rise to more war. Chip Ward discusses the droughts in the Western and South Western U.S. in Red Snow Warning . It is unlikely that we can react appropriately to climate disaster as long as we continue to focus on war.

5. ROBERT FISK ON OUR AFGHAN WAR

The legendary British journalist, Robert Fisk, discusses Osama and Obama and the future of the Afghan War, (click here) .

6. BAN ON CLUSTER MUNITIONS MOVES FORWARD

Most of the world moves toward banning cluster munitions, while the U.S., Israel, Russia and a few other countries continue to drag their feet, (click here), and (here).
