1. NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE: THURSDAY, APRIL 7, 2016

We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, APRIL 7, 2016, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the 60s. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. JOURNALISM OR PROPAGANDA - WHO CAN TELL?

Journalism has become more and more a tool of government propaganda. It's not so much that out-and-out lies are the rule, although there are plenty of those too, but that only selective truths are told. The global financial elite belong to an exclusive club, and they own the mainstream media, so when charges of corruption or vice or murder are levied against a public figure via the press, it is never against one of their own. One of their favorite tricks has been to start a campaign against the head of a country where they want to make changes, to demonize that person, so that the people will not object when they send in the troops to depose him. We saw this in Iraq, in Libya, and in Syria, to name a few extreme examples. Saddam and Gadaffi are dead, and their countries are laid waste. Assad is still alive, but his country, too, is ruined, and hundreds of thousands of refugees from the violence are flocking to other lands. Vladimir Putin appears to be their next big target, but he won't be as easy to depose. He is popular in his own country, and Russia still has some global clout. Robert Parry's article is a good view of how journalism is being used to manipulate public opinion and show the people only what the powers that be want them to see.

John Atcheson has another take on the same subject, showing how the media is distorting the Presidential campaigns, particularly in the Democratic primary race. Bernie Sanders has come from a zero start to seriously challenging Hillary Clinton's assumed lock on the nomination. But the mainstream media is still chanting the mantra, “He can't win.” Multiple polls show Sanders handily beating all the Republican candidates by a much larger margin than Clinton — and in at least one case show Clinton losing while Bernie would win. You would not know this from what you see on television or read in the newspaper. Hillary is the candidate the elite want, and they will not print anything positive about Sanders. Interestingly, they have been unable to find any real negatives to attack Sanders with, and have had to fall back on vague statements such as “He's unrealistic,” “It won't work,” or their standby, “He can't win.” I have a feeling he's about to show them otherwise.

3. THE MISFIT MATHEMATICIAN (Tom's column, http://tomsager.org)

WHAT THEY FEAR IS LIGHT
“I have been to the darkest corners of government, and what they fear is light.”
          —Edward Snowden

The revelations just keep coming. First a trickle, then a stream, then a wave, and now, devant moi, le déluge. The latest revelation: The Panama Papers.

In 1989, then president, Bush the Elder, invaded Panama, ousted strongman Manuel Noriega, bombed the crap out of the country, and then he and his successors set up a government to their liking, where the super-wealthy could safely hide their assets from prying eyes and tax collectors.

Of course, many have known this was happening for a long time. What the leak of the Panama Papers gives us is all the gory corrupt details: Who did what, when, where and how. Iceland prime minister, Sigmundur Davíđ Gunnlaugsson, has been driven out of office in a barrage of eggs. Many others will follow.

But, would you believe that in 2011 Bernie Sanders fought against the Panama Free Trade Agreement which made hiding assets in Panama even easier? Then Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, supported the agreement which was passed and signed into law.
